The government has partnered with the World Bank and GEF to roll out an economic development program in the country by issuing Financial Grants worth US$ 51.4 Million to all deserving Ugandan entrepreneurs and farmers across the country.
The government financial support is aimed at promoting local investment and entrepreneurship following an economic melt down caused by the global novel COVID-19 pandemic. Applicants for the grants must be Ugandan Citizens aged between 23-57 years, officials at the ministry of Finance said.
The grants are apart of governments stimulus packages announced by President Yoweri Museveni to bail out failing businesses and give relief to the most hard hit sectors of the economy after more than four months of a nation wide lock down to stem the spread of the deadly coronavirus.
In his 16th Covid -19 address to the nation , President Yoweri Museveni Museveni directed that Ministries of Education and Gender should register people affected by the lockdown including salon operators, private universities, private secondary schools, private primary schools to be facilitated with soft loans / cheap capital when their activities resume or even help them to do other activities.
