President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has warned opposition politicians that discouraging their supporters from embracing government programs is detrimental to the country’s progress.
Speaking at Mwera village in Kakindu sub-county, Mityana district, President Museveni emphasized that such actions hinder wealth creation and perpetuate poverty.
“Whether you are in opposition, it’s dangerous to discourage your supporters from embracing government programs and participating in wealth creation,” President Museveni said.
He recalled his own experience in the 1960s as a member of the opposition in the Democratic Party, where he preached wealth creation in the cattle corridor.
The President was visiting Mityana to hand over a fully furnished house and a car to Ms. Anna Maria Mukaluyinda Nakampi, a civilian who supported the National Resistance Army during the liberation war.
President Museveni expressed gratitude to Ms. Nakampi, saying, “I want to thank Sister Nakampi because she’s the reason I have come here. She helped us in the war.”
He urged the people of Mityana to ignore those spreading negative messages and instead focus on government programs aimed at eradicating poverty.
“We have sent you money from the national budget to assist you in getting out of poverty, and there are people who have benefited,” President Museveni explained.
The President emphasized the importance of differentiating between development, which benefits all citizens, and wealth creation, which benefits individuals and families.
He encouraged the people to focus on four key sectors: Commercial Agriculture, Industries/Manufacturing, ICT, and Services, and to adopt the four-acre model, which promotes diversification.
President Museveni also addressed the issue of landlords chasing squatters from land, assuring that the government would resolve the issue and protect the rights of Kibanja holders.
During the ceremony, President Museveni donated shs.10 million to Kakindu Catholic Parish and promised to send 10 cows.
He also pledged shs.20 million to each of the Ghetto structure and boda-boda SACCOs and shs.10 million to the women SACCO group in the district.
Other officials, including Alhaji Moses Kigongo, Hon. Judith Nabakooba, and Hon. Godfrey Kiwanda Ssuubi, also addressed the gathering, thanking President Museveni for his efforts and highlighting the success of government programs in Mityana.
Ms. Anna Maria Nakampi expressed her gratitude to President Museveni, encouraging young people to develop a good work ethic and engage in income-generating activities.
