The National Resistance Movement (NRM) and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) have entered into a historic cooperation agreement to provide ideological training for SPLM leaders in Uganda.
This partnership aims to enhance the leadership capacities of SPLM officials through the renowned Kyankwanzi training program at the National Leadership Institute.
A high-level meeting on October 5, 2024, brought together senior leaders from both parties, including NRM’s Secretary General, Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong, and National Treasurer, Ambassador Barbara Nekesa, alongside SPLM’s Secretary for External Relations, Comrade Bol Makueng Youl.
Todwong emphasized the importance of fostering stronger ties between the two parties and supporting multiparty democracy in South Sudan, the world’s youngest nation.
“The NRM is committed to supporting our South Sudanese brothers and sisters by facilitating their training. This is our contribution to strengthening democratic institutions in South Sudan,” Todwong stated.
Discussions also centered on improving socio-economic cooperation, promoting cross-border trade, and removing trade barriers to benefit citizens of both nations.
Comrade Bol Makueng Youl expressed gratitude for Uganda’s long-standing support, particularly during South Sudan’s struggle for self-determination.
“You have been a steadfast partner in our journey toward independence, and we are grateful for your continued support in building our nation. We eagerly anticipate the training of our cadres to equip them with the ideological foundation necessary for leading the country forward,” Bol said.
Ambassador Barbara Nekesa highlighted the mutual benefits of the partnership, emphasizing NRM’s desire to learn from SPLM’s experiences in mobilization and service delivery.
Retired Major Awich Pollar reaffirmed NRM’s commitment to working with revolutionary parties, citing shared aspirations and values.
The ideological training program seeks to strengthen SPLM’s leadership and governance, equipping them to navigate South Sudan’s challenges and secure a more stable future.
