Dr. Patrick Wakida, a renowned supporter of the Opposition Forum for Democratic Change Party, has made a significant move by defecting to the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party.
This change of heart was announced on Saturday, November 9th, 2024, during a meeting with President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in Butaleja district.
President Museveni, who is also the NRM Chairman, warmly received Dr. Wakida, congratulating him for embracing the right ideologies.
Dr. Wakida, hailing from Kibuku district, expressed his commitment to working closely with the NRM government to combat poverty in the region.
As a researcher, Dr. Wakida acknowledged the high poverty rate in the Bukedi Subregion, emphasizing the need for special commitment to address this issue.
He realized that without power, he was unable to make a meaningful impact, prompting his decision to join the NRM party.
“I join the NRM party to search for that power to empower our people,” Dr. Wakida stated, highlighting his desire to create positive change in the region.
Key Factors Behind Dr. Wakida’s Defection
– Poverty Reduction: Dr. Wakida aims to combat poverty in the Bukedi Subregion, which requires special commitment and resources.
– Empowering Local Communities: By joining the NRM party, Dr. Wakida seeks to empower local communities and improve their livelihoods.
– Effective Governance: Dr. Wakida believes that the NRM party offers a more effective governance structure to address regional challenges.
Richard Todwong, the Secretary General of the NRM Party, welcomed Dr. Wakida and thanked him for abandoning the opposition.
President Museveni’s meeting with area leaders focused on implementing the Parish Development Model program to create wealth among the people.
This significant defection is expected to bolster the NRM party’s presence in the Bukedi region, as Dr. Wakida brings his expertise and influence to the table.
