President Museveni’s Four-Acre Model Takes Root in Greater Kibale
By Fredrick Siminyu
President Museveni’s latest initiative, the Four-Acre Model, is set to revolutionize farming in Greater Kibale, empowering farmers to break free from subsistence farming and unlock economic prosperity.
The model, launched in Greater Kibale, emphasizes the importance of diversification, with one acre dedicated to cash crops like coffee, one for food crops, another for fruits, and the last for housing or livestock.
This approach has already yielded success in various regions, including coffee cultivation in Greater Masaka, palm oil farming in Kalangala, and citrus farming in Teso.
During his visit, President Museveni shared inspiring stories of model farmers, including Abigaba Situart, who earned 21 million shillings from just two acres of coffee.
This testimony underscores the economic potential of the Four-Acre Model, with farmers potentially earning profits of nearly 60 million shillings annually.
Key Components of the Four-Acre Model:
– Diversification: One acre for cash crops, one for food crops, one for fruits, and one for housing or livestock
– Irrigation: Adopting irrigation practices to reduce reliance on rainfall
– Improved Livestock Breeds: Artificial insemination for enhanced cattle quality
– Training and Support: Free coffee seedlings and expert guidance through NARO and the Ministry of Agriculture
President Museveni’s vision for the Four-Acre Model extends beyond economic growth, aiming to promote sustainable development and transform the livelihoods of farmers in Greater Kibale.
By embracing this innovative approach, farmers can break free from poverty and unlock a brighter future.
