Government has launched Manifesto Week, a platform for ministries to showcase their service delivery achievements under the Manifesto 2021-2026.
This initiative aims to keep citizens informed about the progress made towards securing a better future for all Ugandans.
Minister for the Presidency, Hon. Babirye Milly Babalanda, emphasized the government’s commitment to transparency, highlighting that 84% of the manifesto’s commitments are either achieved or ongoing.
This progress is despite challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic, global economic crisis, and natural disasters.
The country’s economy has shown resilience, growing by 6% by the end of the financial year 2023/24.
The Manifesto 2021-2026 is structured around five thematic areas, including Creating Jobs and Wealth, which focuses on enhancing economic opportunities for all Ugandans.
Delivering Education, Health, and Water aims to improve essential services, while Ensuring Justice and Equity promotes fairness and equality.
Protecting Life and Property ensures safety and security, and Achieving Economic and Political Integration fosters national unity and cooperation.
Notably, Uganda has made significant progress in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The country ranks 18th among 52 African countries, with an overall score of 54.88.
Government has also made efforts to localize the SDGs, with 88% of local government development plans aligned to the SDGs.
Prof. Ephraim Kamuntu, Chairperson of the Manifesto Draft Committee, expressed confidence that the remaining 16% of commitments will be fulfilled by 2026, securing the party’s mandate to lead the country again.
The Manifesto Implementation Unit Director, Willis Bashaasha, emphasized the importance of this annual event in tracking progress and aligning government policies with the party manifesto.
By showcasing its achievements and future goals, the Ugandan government demonstrates its commitment to transparency and accountability, ensuring citizens are informed and engaged in the country’s development journey.
