Kigulu South hotly contested National Resistance Movement (NRM) party primaries which were halted due to the death of one of the contestants are now scheduled to take place on Friday, 25 September 2020.
The NRM electoral Commission had postponed the primaries here following the untimely death of Stephen Wako, who passed way on the morning of the elections day.
On that day, the NRM Electoral Commission Chairman, DR. Tanga Odoi said that owing to Wako’s death, the party could not go ahead with the Kigulu South Primaries elections.
“Owing to the demise of Wako, the party is indefinitely suspending elections in Kigulu South,” he said.
As of now there are four contenders aspiring for the NRM flag bearer’s position in the area and among them is the incumbent Member of parliament, Hon. Andrew Kaluuya; the current Iganga LC 5 Chairman, Patrick Kayemba Gavamukulya; the former area member of parliament Hon Milton Muwuma Kalulu and Luke Mbigiti.
Deputy NRM Electoral Commission Chairman Aripa Kigyagi has said that all the voting at all polling stations in the area will have to follow the voters register just as it was resolved at the recent meeting between all contestants and the party leadership.
“Our Electoral Commission has also cautioned the contestants and their agents against flouting the Standard Operating Procedures of the Ministry of health against the Covid 19 pandemic and to avoid chaos in these primaries,” he said
