Govt Okays Importation Of Chinese COVID-19 Vaccine

Uganda records more community infections ahead of lockdown deadline day

The Chinese government through its National Health Commission has written to the Ministry of Health of Uganda asking for permission to import COVID-19 vaccine for its nationals in Uganda in a bid to protect its citizens wherever they’re.

According to the letter seen by this website, the Chinese government’s decision came after their nationals’ community of Liao Shen Industrial Park located in Kapeeka, Luwero district, indicated their need for four thousand doses of SARSCoV-2 inactivated vaccine (vero cell).

Accordingly, Uganda’s Health Minister went ahead and cleared the move and allowed them to import the same. In her response letter dated December,3,2020, Ruth Acheng in fact thanks the Chinese Gov’t for the efforts so far in as far as looking for a vaccine to treat the virus is concerned.

“RE: AUTHORIZATION TO IMPORT COVID-19 VACCINES FOR LIAO SHEN INDUSTRIAL PARK, KAPEEKA THROUGH SINO AFRICA MEDICINES AND HEALTH LTD.

Reference is made to the above subject matter. We are delighted that your country has achieved great success in the development of the COVID-19 vaccine to fight against this pandemic. China’s move not only embodies the semeanour of a big country, but also shows a spirit of internationalism, which is undoubtedly a timely help to fighting the epidemic in other countries.

The Chinese Community of Liao Shen Industrial Park indicated their need for Four Thousand Doses of SARSCoV-2 Inactivated Vaccine (Vero Cell) in response to tracking down infections and catching Coronavirus pandemic amongst their Chinese nationals affected within the industrial park.

For proper transportition and use of the vaccine, Sinoafrica Medicines & Health Ltd was designated to procure the vaccine from China National Pharmaceutica Group Co. Ld (Sanopharm) or from Sinovac Research & Development Co Ltd, the vaccine manufacturers and import to Uganda, for Lao Shen Industrial Park and its operators of stricty Chinese origin.

Kindly avail this exit strategy for importation of the vaccine as we look towards stopping people from catching coronavirus or making the virus less deadly.”

The development comes few days after a total of 47 Chinese workers for a project contracted by an Indian company in Uganda tested positive for the disease-according to the Chinese embassy in Uganda.

The embassy didn’t specify when the Chinese workers tested positive, and said several of the 47 Chinese developed symptoms including fever, coughing, fatigue and diarrhea, while others are currently asymptomatic.

The embassy said it had contacted the Indian company to provide necessary support for the Chinese employees and protect their safety and health.
