Nyiraneza Ruth Chosen to Carry on Late Sister’s Legacy in Kisoro District
By The Public Lens
The Kisoro District Council has made a significant decision in appointing Nyiraneza Ruth as the successor to the late Sarah Nyirabashitsi Mateke.
Nyiraneza Ruth, the younger sister of the late Minister Sarah Nyirabashitsi Mateke, has been chosen to fill the vacancy, ensuring continuity and stability in the district.
The motion to appoint Nyiraneza was introduced by Nyakinama Subcounty LCV Councilor Diana Nakato during a special council session held at Mateke’s ancestral home.
The session was attended by various stakeholders, including Kigezi sub-region political leaders and citizens, who collectively supported the appointment.
Bukimbiri County Legislator Eddy Kwizera Wagahungu praised the decision, citing the unnecessary financial burden and disruptions that by-elections would cause with only one year remaining in the term.
Bufumbira North Legislator John Nizeyimana Kamara endorsed Ruth Nyiraneza as the ideal successor, urging other candidates to wait for next year’s National Resistance Movement primaries.
The appointment received widespread support from regional leaders, including Rubanda District LCV Chairman Stephen Ampeire Kasyaba and Kabale District LCV Chairman Nelson Nshangabasheija.
Rukiga District LC5 Chairman Mbabazi Robert and Kanungu LCV Chairman Arinaitwe Sam Jajojo also commended the decision, highlighting the benefits of selecting a family member over holding by-elections.
The district councilors unanimously approved the motion, ensuring a smooth transition and minimizing disruptions in the district.
Nyiraneza Ruth’s appointment honors the legacy of her late sister, Sarah Nyirabashitsi Mateke, and ensures continuity in the district’s leadership.
