By The Public Lens
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has cautioned the people of Tororo against engaging in tribal frictions, emphasizing that tribalism goes against the principles of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government.
He made these remarks during the closure of a five-day Light Up Eastern Region Convocation at Elgon View Field in Tororo District.
The event was organized by the First Daughter, Pastor Patience Rwabwogo, the lead Preacher at the Covenant Nations Church.
President Museveni questioned why individuals from different tribes, such as the Bateso and Badama, should have problems with each other speaking their respective dialects.
He wondered why a Mudama would have a problem with a Muteso speaking his language, emphasizing that all tribes were created by God.
President Museveni explained that such tribal and religious frictions are the ones that destroyed countries like Sudan.
He cited the example of Sudan, where the introduction of Shari’a law led to the suppression of non-Muslims, resulting in the country’s destruction.
President Museveni emphasized that opposing what God has created, such as hating someone for being from a different tribe, is satanic.
He urged believers to enhance their knowledge in spiritual matters and establish themselves in God.
President Museveni reminded the congregation that humans are created in God’s image, and hating each other is equivalent to hating God’s handwork.
He further emphasized that living recklessly is discrediting God, as people are God’s temple.
President Museveni outlined various key areas of NRM Principles, including unity, peace, work to eradicate poverty, and discipline.
He encouraged the congregation to fully participate in these principles.
The President highlighted the need for an inflow of individual skills and expertise, utilizing talents for economic transformation and growth.
He informed locals that the government has played its part in fighting poverty among Ugandans.
President Museveni pointed out the four-acre model and the seven activities, emphasizing the importance of diversifying economic activities.
He noted that all water bodies in Eastern Uganda can be used for fish farming, but people need to listen and adopt new ideas.
President Museveni praised God for gracing his family with a priest, Pastor Patience, and thanked her for her great work.
He was glad that people have acquired a lot and have been convicted to change.
First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Maama Janet Museveni, called on the people to break artificial boundaries of denominations amongst various churches.
She emphasized the need to focus on God through Jesus Christ, who is the foundation of faith and has been with all people through twists and turns.
