Uganda Lauded for Leadership Role at Summit of the Future

The United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, has praised Uganda for its exceptional leadership during the recent Summit of the Future.
Uganda’s efforts to strengthen the rules-based multilateral system have been deeply appreciated, demonstrating the country’s commitment to global cooperation.
The UN Secretary-General’s message was conveyed by Uganda’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Adonia Ayebare, at State House Entebbe.
Uganda has been recognized as a valued partner of the United Nations in addressing global challenges, with the UN committed to further strengthening their relationship.
The country’s chairmanship of the Group of 77 and China has achieved significant milestones, particularly in leading climate change negotiations.
Uganda’s leadership has been impactful, with the adoption of the Pact for the Future being a major achievement.
Over 50 negotiators from the Group of 77 gathered in Kampala to prepare for COP 29 in Baku, where crucial decisions on climate change funding will be made.
Uganda’s chairmanship of the Group of 77 and China will conclude on a high note with COP 29, but the country will continue to chair the Non-Aligned Movement for the next two years.
Notably, Uganda is the only country to have chaired both forums representing the Global South on the international stage.
