Uganda’s Military Future: 203 Officer Cadets Commissioned

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, Commander in Chief of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces, commissioned 203 officer cadets at the Uganda Military Academy in Kabamba, marking a significant milestone in their military careers.
The newly commissioned officers showcased the diversity of Uganda’s military, with some holding degrees from Makerere University and others entering as professionals in fields like engineering, medicine, law and education.
President Museveni highlighted the importance of education in modern warfare, noting that Uganda’s past military struggles were often hindered by a lack of educated personnel.
The President emphasized the value of knowledge in combat, stating that an educated military is better equipped to handle contemporary conflicts.
He praised the transformation of military training facilities into centers of excellence, commending the Ministry of Defence and military commanders for their efforts.
Museveni urged the officer cadets to prioritize their health and integrity, emphasizing the importance of welfare programs supporting soldiers and their families.
He encouraged the military academy to adopt agricultural practices, promoting food production and potentially serving as a model for other sectors.
Top graduate John Muhenda received the highest award, showcasing the academic achievements within the officer cadet group.
Hon. Huda Oleru, Minister of State for Defence, commended the cadets’ hard work and dedication, marking their graduation as both an end and a new beginning.
Lt. Gen. Sam Okiding acknowledged Kabamba military academy’s significance in President Museveni’s vision for a professional army.
Brig. Gen. Wycliff Keita highlighted the inclusion of international officer cadets, reflecting regional cooperation in military training and expressing confidence in their future service.
