Katakwi District Service Commission Secretary, Gabriel Okello, has been arrested together with his Predecessor Moses Opio, currently the Katakwi sub county Assistant over alleged Abuse of Office.
Katakwi Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Maj Rtd Godfrey Katamba has confirmed the arrest and said the suspects were arrested on Wednesday 16th June, 2024 following a validation of workers in the district where fraud was established.
“Okello is alleged to have promoted Simon Peter Opio who is a teacher in Katakwi primary school to the level of a deputy head teacher without a diploma in education, whereas Opio is alleged of having recruited two potters into Local government who did not have any qualifications during his term of office as a secretary service commission,” RDC said.
Geoffrey Omolo, the chairperson of Katakwi district condemned the act and said that whereas the community has been all along accusing the District Service Commission of extortion but with none willing to adduce any evidence for the district to take appropriate action, now with the support of IGG, the district is relieved from these culprits.
“As authorities of Katakwi district we cannot tolerate corruption to ravage our development and we shall allow the law to take its course. We shall handle whoever is connected to this fraud accordingly,” Omolo said.
The duo is in Katakwi police station waiting production in the courts of law to face charges of Abuse of office.
