President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has taken a practical step to reward grassroots political efforts by donating 50 brand-new motorcycles to National Resistance Movement (NRM) mobilisers who played a key role in the recent election campaigns.
The motorcycles were handed over through Hajjat Amina Mukalazi, the head of the State House Local Content Unit, during a ceremony held at Eagle General Traders in Namanve Industrial Park, a company known for assembling Haojue motorcycles locally.
Speaking at the event, Hajjat Mukalazi said the gesture was a direct fulfillment of the President’s promise after being impressed by the mobilisers’ contribution to the party’s electoral success.
She explained,“Following the elections, President Museveni expressed great satisfaction with the mobilisers’ work, which contributed to the NRM’s success at all levels.”
She added that their efforts were instrumental in securing victories across local government and parliamentary positions, making it necessary for the President to recognize and appreciate their commitment.
She noted, “The President had pledged to reward the mobilisers and encourage continued grassroots mobilisation for the party.”
To implement this pledge, the State House Local Content Unit partnered with Haojue through Eagle General Traders to provide motorcycles as a form of both recognition and economic empowerment.
In the first phase of the distribution, four mobilisation groups benefited, with Tonta and the Rapid Response Unit each receiving 15 motorcycles, the NRM Youth High Command receiving 12, and the Nabugerere group receiving eight motorcycles.
The support package extended beyond the motorcycles themselves, as each beneficiary also received fuel cards worth UGX 50,000, helmets, free servicing, and additional accessories to ensure safe and efficient use.
Hajjat Mukalazi urged the recipients to use the motorcycles responsibly and productively, emphasizing that they should serve as tools for improving livelihoods.
She encouraged beneficiaries to consider using them for income-generating activities such as boda boda transport services or helping farmers deliver produce to nearby markets.
At the same time, she cautioned them against misuse, stressing that the motorcycles should not be used for harmful or unproductive activities.
During her remarks, Mukalazi also commended Eagle General Traders for its commitment to local content by employing Ugandans, particularly young people involved in assembling the motorcycles.
She highlighted the importance of such initiatives in creating jobs and building skills among the youth, while also strengthening the country’s manufacturing sector.
She further called on the mobilisers to take an active role in fighting corruption, noting that it remains one of the biggest obstacles to Uganda’s development.
Meanwhile, the Managing Director of Eagle General Traders, Mumbeere, expressed appreciation for the partnership, saying the company was honored to be selected among many motorcycle assemblers in Uganda.
He noted that the decision reflected confidence in the quality of their products and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting local initiatives.
On behalf of the beneficiaries, Commander Salim Menton thanked President Museveni for fulfilling his promise and recognizing their efforts.
He encouraged fellow mobilisers to adopt a collective approach in managing the motorcycles to ensure that all members benefit.
He said,“Members should use the motorcycles collectively through SACCO structures so that all members can benefit, rather than for individual gain.”
The initiative not only highlights the government’s appreciation of grassroots political work but also reflects a broader effort to combine recognition with economic empowerment.
By providing tools that can generate income and improve mobility, the program positions mobilisers to continue supporting their communities while strengthening their own livelihoods.
