Lira Golf Club has in conjunction with Kinyara Sugar Limited held a golf tournament in memory of the fallen golf stars in Lango region.

The tournament recently took place at Lira Golf course with participants drawn from all regions across the country.

According to Pastor Anthony Omara, one of the leaders of Lira Golf Club, the game was hosted in Lira in honor of the lives of the fallen sons of the Lango community who during their life time greatly contributed in the development of the Golf game not only in Lango but also Uganda at large.

“We have held this tournament Lira in honor of the lives of the fallen sons of the Lango community. In less than a decade, Lango golf club has lost three prominent players; the late Professor Opio Ekong, the former VC of All Saint University Lango, Dr. James Eyul, the former in charge of epidemics at Entebbe international airport and lastly Wilson Okae , a biker and golf player,” Pastor Omara said.

Pastor Anthony Omara also added that this tournament was aimed at creating a network and encouraging people to embrace golf games in Lango.

Speaking to Journalists in Lira City, Aldon Walukamba the cooperate communication manager of Kinyara Sugar Ltd,  said besides their sponsorship, their team also participated in the tournament and added that in June they will sponsor Kabulega Memorial tournament.

Walukamba himself a golf player said Kinyara Sugar Ltd enjoys the spirit of togetherness and sports. He stressed the importance of people playing golf regularly saying that it makes them stay strong and fit.

Walukamba also urged people to desist from the negative perception that the golf game is for a special class of rich people.

“It’s not true that the golf game is only for a special class of rich people.

Golf is the best game ever.  I joined three years ago and I am enjoying.   It improves on health and anyone can play if because it has no age limit,” he said.

Caro Aduku, a female player for Lira Golf club, saying that playing golf makes people stay long because it is good for muscle Health called upon her fellow women to join the game.

Among the participating clubs were  Mbale Golf Club, Kampala Golf Club , Entebbe Golf,  Arua Golf, Lira Golf , Namolonge Golf in Tororo and Kinyara Golf.

About the Sponsor
