President Ruto Appoints New Commissioner General of Prisons
In a significant move, President William Ruto has appointed Patrick Mwiti as the new Commissioner General of Prisons, replacing Brigadier (Rtd) John Warioba.
The announcement, made on Friday July 12 2024, marks a notable change in the leadership of Kenya’s correctional facilities.
The appointment comes at a time when President Ruto has made a significant reshuffle of his cabinet, dismissing several ministers and reshuffling others.
The move is seen as a bold step by the President to reassert his authority and streamline his administration.
Mwiti’s appointment is part of President Ruto’s ongoing efforts to revitalize and improve the effectiveness of police services.
Brigadier (Rtd) Warioba, who was appointed by former President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2021, will proceed on terminal leave pending the end of his tenure.
President Ruto praised Mwiti’s qualifications and experience, stating, “Mr. Patrick Mwiti Arandu has been appointed as the Commissioner General of Prisons.”
The President expressed confidence in Mwiti’s ability to lead the prison system effectively.
The cabinet reshuffle and the appointment of a new Commissioner General of Prisons are seen as a significant shift in President Ruto’s administration, aimed at improving the country’s criminal justice system and enhancing the effectiveness of police services.
