By Fredrick Siminyu
In a recent reshuffling of sectoral committee chairpersons by the National Resistance Movement (NRM), two members of parliament from Mayuge district have secured prestigious positions.
Iddi Isabirye, the legislator for Bunya South, has been appointed as the Deputy Chairperson of the ICT Committee, while James Kubeketerya, the MP for Bunya East, has taken over as the new Chairperson of the Education Committee.
The reshuffle, announced by Government Chief Whip Hamson Obua during a plenary session on July 23, follows a decision by the NRM’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) to remove all committee leaders due to corruption allegations.
The changes aim to strengthen the party’s stance against corruption and ensure effective leadership in various sectors.
Isabirye and Kubeketerya’s appointments are a significant milestone for Mayuge district, demonstrating the region’s growing influence in national politics.
Their new roles will enable them to contribute to shaping policies and decisions in the critical areas of ICT and education.
Moses Magogo, the Budiope East MP, who previously chaired the ICT committee, and Robina Rwakoojo Gureme, the Gomba West MP, who chaired the Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee, are among those who lost their posts.

The new committee chairpersons include Sylvia Nayebare, who takes over as Chairperson of the Trade and Tourism Committee, Stephen Baka, who becomes the new Chairperson of the Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee, and Herbert Edmund Ariko, who assumes the role of Chairperson of the Committee of Environment and Natural Resources.
James Nsaba Buturo, the Bufumbira East MP, is the new Chairperson of the Committee of East African Affairs, while Tony Ayoo, the Kwania County MP, becomes the new Chairperson of the ICT Committee.
