By The Public Lens
A shocking incident of double murder by shooting has left residents of Kyengera Town Council, Wakiso District, in a state of utter shock and grief. The tragic event occurred on July 23, 2024, at around 8:00 pm, at Buddo Junction, Nakasozi Cell, Nabbingo Ward.
According to eyewitnesses, a boda boda rider reported a shooting incident at the junction, where two people were feared dead. The area police from Buddo Junior Police Post responded promptly and confirmed the incident. Upon arrival, they found two bodies lying dead – a female adult on the tarmac and a male adult in a motor vehicle, registration number UAK 375U.
Preliminary investigations reveal that the deceased were victims of a botched kidnapping attempt. Brigadier CK Asiimwe, an attaché to the DRC Congo, had sent his driver, CPL Okiror Daniel, and his brother, Ian, on a mission to Kasese in a motor vehicle, UBL 990X Mark X. On their return journey, they picked up a female relative of the Ambassador to Jibuti, Kalumina Richard.
However, their journey was disrupted when they were blocked by motor vehicle UAK 375U, occupied by four individuals dressed in military attire and armed with a pistol. The occupants of UAK 375U ordered CPL Okiror Daniel and Ian to disembark and enter their vehicle, claiming they had been sent to pick them up. Despite initial hesitation, they complied, only to become suspicious when two of the assailants remained in their vehicle.
CPL Okiror Daniel was disarmed of his pistol, and the kidnappers started communicating with an unknown person, claiming they had arrested the duo and were delivering them to their sender. Realizing their lives were in danger, Ian managed to escape, leaving CPL Okiror Daniel behind. CPL Okiror Daniel then texted his boss, Brigadier CK Asiimwe, informing him of the abduction and providing details of the motor vehicle he was in.
Brigadier Asiimwe promptly submitted CPL Okiror Daniel’s telephone number to the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) for location. Upon reaching Buddo Junction, CPL Okiror Daniel disarmed the assailants and shot the driver dead, while the co-driver escaped. Unfortunately, a stray bullet hit a female pedestrian, Nalumanzi Evelyn Zallia Kironde Katende, aged 50, a resident of Nakasozi Cell, Nabbingo Ward, who died on the spot.
The police have since visited the crime scene, recovered the suspected motor vehicle, UAK 375U, and exhibited it. They have also recovered CPL Okiror Daniel’s pistol, s/no. UG UPDF 45306157 JERRICO, with two rounds of ammunition, and twelve cartridges from the crime scene. The two bodies have been delivered to the city mortuary for post-mortem examination.
Statements have been recorded from CPL Okiror Daniel and eyewitnesses to aid investigations. The police are working tirelessly to apprehend the perpetrators and unravel the circumstances surrounding this heinous crime.
