Sudhir Ruparelia Honoured for Shaping Uganda’s Skyline and Expanding Access to Housing

Ugandan tycoon Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia has been recognised with the 2025 Lifetime Achievers Award for his groundbreaking impact on Uganda’s real estate industry and his efforts to make housing more accessible.

The honour was bestowed during the National Property Awards at Sheraton Hotel Kampala, an event that gathered government officials, property stakeholders, and business leaders.

Dr. Edwin Musiime, Chairman of the Uganda Homeowners Association, presented the award to Sudhir in front of an audience that celebrated his vast contributions.

“Dr. Sudhir has lived a life dedicated to bettering the standards of living for many Ugandans. Beyond affordable housing, he has invested heavily in education, healthcare, and recreation,” Dr. Musiime said in his keynote speech.

Through Meera Investments and the Ruparelia Group, Sudhir has developed landmark projects including Speke Resort Munyonyo, Kabira Country Club, Kingdom Kampala, Pearl Tower, and the recently unveiled One-10 Apartments in Kololo.

His business empire extends far beyond real estate, with investments in banking, hospitality, agriculture, and education that have positioned him as one of Uganda’s most influential entrepreneurs.

Forbes traces his entrepreneurial journey back to the United Kingdom, where he saved \$25,000 before returning to Uganda in 1985.

He began with beer distribution but later turned to property development, a decision that transformed Kampala’s skyline and cemented his legacy.

At the awards, Hon. Judith Nabakooba, Minister of State for Lands, Housing and Urban Development, stressed Uganda’s urgent housing deficit, which stands at nearly seven million units.

She called for deeper collaboration between government and private developers to address the crisis and expand affordable housing options.

Her remarks were echoed by Mugabi Lazarus, Director of the Board of Governors at AREA Uganda, who advised Ugandans to keep accommodation expenses within 30% of household income.

He noted that while housing shortages are a global issue, Uganda must design solutions tailored to its specific challenges.

Beyond his property empire, Sudhir’s investments in schools, hospitals, and philanthropic projects have generated thousands of jobs and contributed significantly to Uganda’s socioeconomic development.

His recognition as a Lifetime Achiever underscores the enduring impact of his work on communities and the country’s broader growth.
