Uganda has recorded 11 new Coronavirus cases, bringing the number of confirmed cases in the country to 859.
According to the Ministry of Health, the new cases were part of 3,386 samples that were tested on Saturday, June 26. Nine of the confirmed cases were from alerts and contacts in Amuru and Nwoya, while two were truck drivers at two border points; Mutukula and Busia.
Uganda has so far registered 794 recoveries and no covid-19 related fatality ever since the outbreak in the country. Uganda is among 5 African countries that have no registered any death. The other four are Seychelles, Eritrea, Lesotho, Namibia
As of 27 June, 2020 a total of 356,000 cases of COVID-19 had been reported on the African continent. 171,000 recoveries and 9,100 deaths have been reported.
Dr Misaki Wanyengera, an epidemiologist and also the head of the COVID-19 Scientific committee says that Uganda’s low cases and zero deaths are as result of acting early.
“Before we got a case, we locked down the country. Thi does not mean that we
shall not get more cases or even record deaths. If we do not take caution, we shall record some deaths,” said Dr. Wayengera.
