National Resistance Movement (NRM), Uganda’s ruling party is in conjunction with the police force hunting down unscrupulous officials of its own who have embezzled party funds and gone into hiding.
The officials on the run, plus those already apprehended and in police custody, are alleged to have embezzled the money which was meant to facilitate the just recently concluded youth elections countrywide.
Speaking at the weekly briefing on Sunday, the Party Communication Director, Emmanuel Dombo revealed that most of the suspects are either on the run or gone into hiding although the police has managed to arrest some.
“Working jointly with the police, we have managed to arrest some of them although others are still in hiding but we shall get them,” he said.
He said the embezzled money was meant to be given to party flag bearers in Special Interest Groups (SIG) as facilitation during the recently concluded youth elections.
The party gave out Shs. 50,000 as facilitation to every party flag bearer who participated in the SIG elections at village level.
Some of the flag bearers who did not receive the money raised complaints to the party leadership through different social media platforms and the party’s official channels prompting the party authorities to swing into action.
In response to the complaints, Buikwe Administrative Secretary, Saudah Nankya Sentamu, was the first to be arrested.
She was on Wednesday last week arrested by policein and released on bond after she allegedly paid Shs 10 million out of the Shs 20.5 million she purportedly had swindled.
