Norbert Mao’s hopes blown in the wind as EC disqualifies DP candidate for Kampala mayoral race

Beatrice Kayanja
Democratic Party (DP) president Norbert Moa’s hopes of avenging against Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago who defected his party and officially joined the Forum for Democratic Chanage (FDC) have faded in air after the electoral commission disqualified his candidate.
Mao recently unveiled businesswoman Beatrice Kayanja to contest for Kampala Lord Mayoral race in 2021 elections.
However, the electoral commission on Thursday disqualified Kayanja after learning that she’s not a registered voter.
According to Kampala District returning officer, Fredrick Muwaya, Kayanja was asked to avail her academic papers and also prove that she’s a registered voter before she could be nominated, something that she failed at.
Ms Kayanja was fielded in an attempt to unseat former DP stalwart and incumbent Lord Mayor, Mr Erias Lukwago. Mr Lukwago formally crossed to the Forum Democratic Change (FDC) and was on Wednesday nominated to contest in the same race for the same seat.
The Kampala Maoral race has attracted several people including musicians Joseph Mayanja alias Jose Chameleon (Independent), NRM’s Daniel Kazibwe best known by his stage name Ragga Dee.
Others are the incumbent, Erias Lukwago and NUP’s Nabbila Nagayi Ssempala.
