All candidates preparing to sit for examinations offered by the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) under the Uganda programs of Universal Primary Education (UPE), Universal Secondary Education (USE) and Universal Post O-Level Education and Training will this time have their registration fees paid by government.
UNEB Executive Secretary Dan Nokrach Odongo addressing journalists at the Uganda Media Center, said the registration of candidates process which will run for five weeks themed on ‘integrity and security in the management of Examinations’ commenced on October 22, 2020.
He urged Head teachers in charge of Government aided schools under the UPE and USE programs to submit the registration details of candidates timely, to allow prompt payment of their UNEB registration fees since there will be no room for late registration.
According to Livenewschatroom, UNEB has also directed schools to register students who conceived during the Covid-19 induced long holiday.
“The number of students who conceived this time is higher compared to the previous years, but these were victims of circumstances, therefore, blocking them from sitting the examination will be double jeopardy,” Odongo said.
Odongo also urged head-teachers not to inflate registration fees, and that additional charges by schools for administrative purposes, ought to be clearly explained to parents.
“Schools should not hike their fees claiming that they are UNEB fees. We urge parents to remain vigilant and not allow to be exploited under the guise of UNEB fees,” Odongo warned.
Odongo also warned District Education Officers against registering pupils from private schools in government schools, as UPE or USE candidates.
He as well explained that UNEB had released a clear roadmap for sitting of examinations where according to the new calendar candidates will sit for their Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) starting March 1, 2021, Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) on March 30 and the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) starting April 12, 2021.
