The Police have warned the National Unity Platform Presidential candidate Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert aka Bobi Wine to refrain from making pledges of improving the welfare of armed forces as this could spark internal divisionism.
The Criminal Investigation Department Spokesman Charles Twiine while addressing the journalists at the Uganda Media Centre on Friday November 6th2020 disregarded Bobi Wine’s pledges saying that they are next to impossible.
“Some Politicians are taking this season to mislead our police officers in terms of an improvement in welfare. There is no police officer who deserves a good life. We are contended in our poverty. We join the police to serve, not earn,” Charles Twiine remarked.
“How are you going to raise the said UGX 1 million for each police officer? You need about 22 trillion annually to fulfill this. Where will you get the funds? As police, we will not allow politicians like Bobi Wine to mislead our forces,” Twiine added.
On Tuesday moments after his nomination, Kyagulanyi pledged to elevate the welfare of the members of the armed forces. In his manifesto, Kyagulanyi says he is to improve the payments of all members of the armed forces with the least paid earning at least UGX 1 million.
He further pledges to ensure that promotions are given on merit and not ‘who knows who’ as case is under the current Museveni system.
Bobi further adds that under his reign, the housing of police officers will be improved and their children will be educated from elementary school up to university.
