Civil servants and supervisors of Government funded projects in Bunyoro subregion are in panic as Economic Monitoring Minister Peter Ogwang Combs the area to assess Government performance.
So far more than 10 technocrats have been handed over to police for investigations regarding alleged corruption and public resources mismanagement related cases arising from defaults in their work.
During his field exercise in Masindi District today, Minister Peter Ogwang ordered for the arrest and investigation of District officials after establishing that they had led him to commission a ghost borehole in Kimengo, one of the areas with shortage of clean water in Masindi District.
It was established that the officials had approved payment to the contractor, funds amounting to 88 million shillings for four ghost boreholes.
The arrested are the Principal District Internal Auditor Mr Okise Patrick, Finance Officer Richard Obwana, Engineer Muhumuza John, the Procurement Officer, Water Engineer among others and are to be investigated by the police Criminal Investigations Department- CID in Masindi.
On Saturday the Minister caused the arrest of the Kiryandongo Town Clerk Rauben Manigamukama over alleged mismanagement of 1.966b, funds meant for construction of an Administration block.
The minister has warned Government official entrusted with management of public infrastructure projects to desist from misappropriation of resources or they face the tough hand of the law against graft.
Minister Ogwang is flanked by his counterpart Minister for Bunyoro Affairs, Hon Jennifer Namuyangu.
