Government Empowers Doho1 Rice Scheme Farmers to Boost Rice Growing

Government has injected a grant of Shs750 million into Doho1 rice scheme, in Butaleja district to Boost Rice Growing.
This was on Friday 17th May, 2024 revealed by the Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Hajirah Namagogwe, during a media briefing at her office.
Namagogwe said the grant came through the Ministry of Agriculture Animal Husbandry and Fisheries with the intention of benefiting over 300 farmers at the rice scheme..
“This money is going to do different activities such as the building of parameter walls to prevent the flooding of River Manafwa which has been adversely affecting farmers and the construction of latrines in the scheme plus the installation of a modern milling machine for the rice farmers,’ she said.
She as well clarified that the funds had already been released and implementation of the planned works are scheduled to commence before the end of this financial year 2023/24.
“I call upon all the farmers in the district to embrace this government initiative for their own benefit,” she said.
Jimmy Nambiro, the Butaleja assistant RDC urged the farmers to form SACCOs for the purpose of collective price bargaining and boost their earnings from rice.
He also encouraged them to embrace government programs like Emyooga, Parish Development Model among others so as to access cheap loans which they can use in rice growing.
Samuel Were, one of the rice growers expressed his happiness for the grant and said the money will greatly transform the scheme and the lives of the farmers.
