Empowering Citizens: President Museveni Urges Ugandans to Utilize Local Council Systems for Accountability

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has emphasized the importance of citizens utilizing Local Council (LC) systems to demand accountability from leaders and ensure effective service delivery.
Speaking at a thanksgiving ceremony in Busia district, the President encouraged Ugandans to leverage the LC system to monitor government programs, such as the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga.
The President reiterated the NRM government’s commitment to empowering citizens, stating, “NRM has empowered Ugandans with the strength to catch thieves, but you are not utilizing the system.”
He urged citizens to use the LC system to hold leaders accountable and ensure transparency in government programs.
In addition to emphasizing the importance of accountability, President Museveni also stressed the need for leaders to support the NRM government’s initiatives, such as Universal Primary and Secondary Education.
He called on leaders to ensure that all children have access to education without sabotage.
The President also encouraged citizens to engage in modern commercial agriculture for food and financial security, and urged leaders to advise citizens on wealth creation.
He emphasized the importance of hard work and initiative, stating, “There’s no miracle for wealth creation; you must work.”
The ceremony was attended by various dignitaries, including the Vice President, H.E. Jessica Alupo, who acknowledged the importance of good neighborliness and Pan-Africanism.
The host, Hon. John Mulimba, expressed his gratitude to President Museveni for the trust bestowed upon him and pledged to serve with dignity and the best of his ability.
The event also saw the crossover of 1,400 former supporters of the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) to NRM, a testament to the growing support for the ruling party.
Overall, the ceremony highlighted the importance of citizen empowerment, accountability, and leadership in driving development and prosperity in Uganda.
