The Buganda Road Magistrates Court has taken a significant step towards ensuring accountability for an unauthorized procession that took place on August 5, 2024.
Chief Magistrate Ronald Kayizzi has issued criminal summons for Kira Municipality MP Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda and Kampala Deputy Mayor Doreen Nyanjura, compelling them to appear in court on October 2, 2024.
Their nonappearance in court on Wednesday prompted the issuance of these summons, which are related to a case involving 14 individuals, including Ssemujju and Nyanjura, who are collectively charged with causing a common nuisance.
The group, comprising members of the Katonga faction of the FDC, allegedly obstructed pathways and incited disturbances during the unauthorized procession to the Kenyan High Commission offices in Kampala.
The accused individuals, including legal practitioners, entrepreneurs, vendors, scholars, and politicians, are accused of participating in the procession, which was aimed at submitting a petition to the Kenyan High Commission.
The petition denounced the apprehension and extradition of 36 associates from Kisumu, Kenya, who are currently detained in Luzira Prison, facing accusations of terrorism.
The court’s action ensures that those involved in the unauthorized procession are held accountable for their actions.
As the case progresses, it is clear that the court is committed to upholding the rule of law and maintaining order in the community.
The accused individuals will have the opportunity to respond to the allegations in court, and the legal process will ensure a fair outcome.
