The Uganda Police Force Gets a Boost: Seven Senior Officers Elevated to AIGP Rank
By Fredrick Siminyu
Gen Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the President and Commander in Chief (CiC) of Uganda’s armed Forces, has made a significant move to strengthen the Uganda Police Force by promoting seven senior officers to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP).
The announcement of the promotions was made by the police spokesperson ACP Rusoke Kituuma in a brief statement on Wednesday, September 04, 2024.
Among the officers who have attained the highest rank in the force include Kafeero Moses, the Director of Human Resources and Training, and SCP Frank Mwesigwa, the Director of Operations Service.
AIGP Kafeero has had a distinguished career, previously working in various departments of police, including as KMP Commander, Commander Kabalye Police Training School, and police senior Command and staff college in Bwebajja, among others.
AIGP Mwesigwa, on the other hand, is remembered for his actions during the 2020 presidential campaign, which left 54 people killed, and had been in the quiet position of deputy director of Counter-Terrorism (CT) police until recently when President Museveni returned him to active force as Director of Operations.
Also on the list of promotions are AIGP Bamunoma Ubaldo, the Director In charge of the Chief Political Commissariat, and Felix Baryawisaki, the Director ICT, among others.
The full list of promoted police officers includes:
– SCP Bamunoba Ubaldo
– SCP Baryamwisaki Felix
– SCP Kafeero Moses
– SCP Kataratambi Charles
– SCP Mwesigwa Frank
– SCP Namutebi Hadijah
– SCP Wasswa David
Notably, the AIGP is the highest rank in the police office, with the IGP and Deputy IGP not considered as ranks but appointments made by the sitting President.
This move is seen as a strategic effort to boost the morale and capacity of the Uganda Police Force, and to recognize the dedication and service of these senior officers.
