NRM Secretary General Urges Makerere Students to Embrace Mentorship
By The Public Lens
The NRM Secretary General, Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong, has called upon university students to make the most of their time and opportunities to prepare themselves for public service.
Todwong, speaking at the NRM Makerere chapter handover ceremony, cautioned students against getting distracted by the freedoms they enjoy at university.
“Do not be swayed away by the freedoms that come with the free time at the University. With the freedoms available, you may fail to complete your studies,” he warned.
Instead, Todwong urged students to focus on their studies and improve themselves through mentorship programs like ideological retreats.
“I implore you always to seek advice and guidance from senior leaders if you are to be groomed into responsible leaders in future,” he said.
Todwong challenged the students to draw inspiration from President Yoweri Museveni’s conduct in handling the country’s affairs.
Like President Museveni, Todwong advised the young people to approach politics and leadership with honesty and patience to avoid mistakes.
The NRM Secretary General commended the Charter leadership for their organization and mobilization efforts, and assured them of continued support from the secretariat.
Outgoing NRM Chapter Chairman Robert Ankunda expressed gratitude to the secretariat for their empowerment and support.
“You have never forsaken us, and I believe the assistance and support you have given us shall also be extended to the incoming team,” Ankunda said.
The ceremony was attended by notable leaders, including Director of External Affairs Counsel Awich Pollar, Kampala Central Mayor Salim Uhuru, and NRM patron at Makerere University Dr. Eria Hisali.
