President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni will be the chief guest at this year’s 62nd Independence Day Anniversary celebrations, scheduled to take place at Busikho Teachers Demonstration Primary School Grounds in Masafu Town Council, Busia District.
The theme for this year’s celebrations is “Independence Day: A Recommitment to Secure and Fortify Our Destiny,” emphasizing the country’s continued commitment to its sovereignty.
Notably, President Museveni will be joined by another Head of State visiting Uganda for the first time, adding significance to the occasion.
The event’s protocol will provide further details in due course.
Uganda gained independence on October 9, 1962, when the Duke of Kent handed over the instruments of independence on behalf of the Queen.
The historic moment was marked by the hoisting of the Ugandan flag, featuring the iconic black, yellow, and red colors, at Kololo Grounds, signaling the end of British rule.
Last year’s celebrations were held in the Northern district of Kitgum under the theme “Sustaining a United and Progressive Nation. Taking Charge of Our Future as a Free Nation.”
This year’s event promises to be a momentous occasion, celebrating Uganda’s 62 years of independence and its continued growth as a nation.
