Joint Forces Achieve Major Breakthrough in Fight Against ADF

A significant victory has been achieved in the ongoing military campaign against the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The joint operation, known as Operation Shujaa, between the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) and the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC), has successfully rescued 40 civilians, including 19 Ugandans, in a fierce battle against ADF militants in Biakato, Mambasa Territory.
The rescued civilians, mainly women and children, had been held captive by the ADF, bringing relief to families and communities in both Uganda and the DRC, according to Major Bilal Katamba, UPDF Mountain Division and Operation Shujaa Spokesperson.
“The victims had been held captive by the ADF, and their release comes as a relief to families and communities in both Uganda and the DRC. Among the rescued, 19 Ugandans from various regions such as Kyazanga, Mayuge, Nyanama, and Magamaga were identified, sparking hope for more successful rescues,” Major Katamba said.
The joint forces also seized significant enemy equipment, including 9 firearms, 6 walkie-talkies, several magazines, and rounds of ammunition, as well as human drugs indicating the ADF’s growing desperation.
During the encounter, 27 ADF militants were neutralized, with several others injured, while one soldier from the joint forces was wounded in the leg.
Immediate medical evacuation was conducted, and both the injured soldier and rescued civilians received prompt medical care at the UPDF Muhote Hospital.
Gen. Otto, commander of Operation Shujaa, flew to Biakato to oversee the rescue and congratulate his troops, receiving overwhelming applause from the local population for their bravery and commitment to restoring peace.
“These soldiers are not just protecting borders; they are saving lives,” Gen Otto emphasized.
The mission in Biakato is part of a broader strategy to deny the ADF safe havens in Eastern Congo, demonstrating the UPDF and FARDC’s commitment to peace and stability in the region, enabling trade and economic activities for development ¹ ².
