NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong Advocates for Community Development

National Resistance Movement (NRM) Secretary-General, Hon. Richard Todwong, has urged party supporters in the Lango sub-region to shift their focus from blaming others to empowering households and fighting poverty through sustainable wealth creation.
Todwong made this call during a meeting with NRM leaders from the Lango sub-region at Lira Hotel on September 25, 2024, to assess the progress of the NRM manifesto implementation.
“Don’t waste energy discussing UPC; concentrate on things affecting ordinary people,” Todwong emphasized. “Speak to the people of development opportunities, because UPC won’t give it to them. Let your tenure change the lives of those you lead. Our work is mobilizing the community to produce raw materials for the industrial sector.”
However, some NRM members expressed concerns about challenges arising from the NRM-UPC collaboration. Apac District Woman MP Betty Awor Engola stated, “This marriage between UPC and NRM must be divorced; it’s causing huge problems.”
Oyam former Woman MP Beatrice Lagada warned against UPC’s “gang-pressing” tactics, urging NRM leaders to stand firm. “When one person speaks out, many gang up to intimidate and silence them.”
Tanga Odoi, NRM Electoral Commission Chairman, criticized some NRM members for double standards. “You leaders are divided because of personal gain. Be NRM through and through, not secretly joining UPC.”
Rt. Rev. Bishop Professor Alfred Olwaa of Lango Diocese emphasized the importance of inspecting party members. “As a leader, if you don’t inspect, don’t expect results”
