EU Lauds Uganda’s Peacekeeping Efforts in East Africa

The European Union has recognized Uganda’s vital contributions to maintaining peace and stability in East Africa, particularly in Somalia.
EU Ambassador to Uganda, Jan Sadek, emphasized Uganda’s crucial role in regional security during a visit to Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) colleges in Jinja.
“We are here to commend Uganda as a key player in supporting peace and stability in the region, especially Somalia,” Sadek stated, highlighting the EU’s desire to strengthen its partnership with Uganda.
Major General Francis Okello, Commandant of the National Defence College – Uganda (NDC-U), expressed gratitude for the enduring Uganda-EU relationship.
He acknowledged the UPDF’s efforts in maintaining regional stability and hoped for increased collaboration with EU institutions to enhance security.
Major General George Igumba, Commandant of the Senior Command and Staff College (SCSC), discussed the college’s role in professionalizing defense forces.
“The mission of the college is to bolster leadership skills for higher command and staff roles,” Igumba explained, seeking closer ties with EU staff colleges.
The EU delegation included ambassadors from Belgium, Denmark, Italy, France, Netherlands, Sweden, Ireland, Austria, and Germany.
Their attendance underscored the EU’s commitment to strengthening Uganda ties in security, defense, and other sectors.
Other attendees included Brigadier Generals Chris Ogwal, David Tweheyo, Kefa Nangeso, and Professor Rutanga, among other military officials.
