Buganda MPs Unite Against Zaake’s Misconduct

Legislators from the Buganda region have come together to condemn the actions of MP Francis Zaake during a plenary session on November 20, 2024.
Muwanga Kivumbi, the head of the Buganda Parliamentary Caucus, expressed shock at Zaake’s arrogance and childish behavior.
Zaake’s actions were deemed unbecoming of an honorable member, as he chose to act outside parliamentary procedures. This behavior was not only unacceptable but also disruptive to the legislative process.
Kivumbi revealed that several Buganda MPs had grown tired of Zaake’s disrespect, feeling that his closeness to Bobi Wine made him act superior.
“Zaake is so disrespectful even to us, his opposition fellows; he thinks that being close to Bobi Wine makes him above everyone,” Kivumbi stated.
During a private meeting on November 5, 2024, Zaake allegedly admitted to receiving instructions to disrupt the parliamentary sitting.
His words, “I have instructions from the Principal, Hon. Robert, to act rowdy, insult others without listening, and disrupt the sessions,” were seen as a clear indication of his intent.
The general public also condemned Zaake’s behavior, calling for disciplinary action against his unprofessional conduct.
Oloya Chris posted on X, “He’s only the member of parliament that fully represents NUP’s core values and principles. The principal must be proud of his hooliganism and actually should appoint him LOP.”
Before the session, Zaake took to social media, expressing his readiness to fight anyone opposing the coffee bill.
His actions later that day, provoking fellow legislator Anthony Akol, led to chaos and a physical altercation.
The Buganda MPs’ condemnation of Zaake’s actions serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining parliamentary decorum and respect for colleagues.
As Kivumbi emphasized, “We condemn violence and disrespect for the rule of law. What has just occurred does not reflect what we stand for and hope that our colleague recovers very soon.”
