The Kisoro District Chairman, Abel Bizimana, is facing a potential censure from councilors who accuse him of selling district land to the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) for a whopping 200 million shillings.
The land in question is strategically located along the Kabale-Bunagana road, opposite the central police station, and is currently occupied by UWA offices.
According to a Memorandum of Understanding between UWA and the Kisoro District Council, the council offered the land to UWA for the construction of a modern tourism information center under Minute Number 08/DLC/2019.
However, the controversy surrounding the land sale emerged when the Chief Administrative Officer, John Nyakahuma, informed the council that the District Lands Board had offered the contested land to UWA on a free leasehold basis.
Nyakahuma cautioned that granting land on a free leasehold basis could have far-reaching consequences, including a lack of flexibility and adaptability, the risk of leasehold disputes, and the potential loss of the land permanently.
This development has sparked concerns among councilors, who are now threatening to censure Bizimana over the alleged land sale.
The Kisoro District Council’s decision to offer the land to UWA has raised eyebrows, with many questioning the motivations behind the move.
As the controversy unfolds, Bizimana’s leadership is under scrutiny, and the councilors are demanding answers about the alleged land sale and its implications for the district.
