The National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) has taken a significant leap forward in enhancing its service delivery by acquiring four high-tech card printing machines.
Each machine is capable of producing up to 3,000 national IDs per hour, which is expected to greatly reduce the turnaround time for national ID processing.
These advanced machines are part of NIRA’s preparations for the upcoming National ID mass enrollment and renewal exercise, scheduled to take place at the parish level.
This strategic move aims to streamline the registration process and provide timely identification services to all Ugandans.
In addition to the new printing machines, NIRA has also received over 5,000 registration kits, which have played a crucial role in training client-facing staff, including Registration Assistants and Officers.
The comprehensive training program has equipped staff with the necessary skills to handle the mass registration exercise efficiently.
To ensure a high standard of service, trainees underwent exit tests to assess their readiness.
This measure will inform deployment strategies for optimal service delivery, guaranteeing that the registration process is carried out smoothly and efficiently.
With these technological advancements, NIRA is poised to revolutionize the national ID registration and issuance process.
By reinforcing its commitment to providing timely and reliable identification services, NIRA is set to make a significant impact on the lives of Ugandans.
According to Peter Okwalinga, an official from NIRA’s Public Relations Department, “The arrival of these high-speed printers is a game-changer in our efforts to eliminate bottlenecks in national ID issuance”.
Okwalinga emphasized that NIRA is well-prepared for the mass registration exercise, thanks to the new printing machines and comprehensive training program.
