President Yoweri Museveni’s recent arrival in Juba, South Sudan, marks a significant diplomatic engagement aimed at bolstering bilateral relations and regional stability.
The President was warmly received by his host, President Salva Kiir Mayardit, at Juba International Airport, where he was also greeted by several senior government officials from South Sudan, including Hon. Chol Mawut Ajongo, Hon. Ramadan Muhammed Abdalla, and Hon. Chol Thon Balok.
On the Ugandan side, President Museveni was welcomed by Hon. Jacob Oboth Oboth, Gen. Proscovia Nalweyiso, and H.E. Brig. Gen. Ronnie Balya, among others.
During his visit, President Museveni inspected a guard of honor ahead of his meeting with President Kiir and other stakeholders for bilateral talks between the two nations.
The President’s remarks to the press emphasized the importance of peace and democracy in South Sudan. “I appeal to the Transitional Government, headed by His Excellency Kiir and the other stakeholders, to stop all actions involving insecurity so that people focus on elections as soon as possible,” he said.
President Museveni also stressed that the people of South Sudan had fought for self-determination and should be given the chance to exercise it democratically.
President Kiir expressed his gratitude to President Museveni for honoring his invitation and acknowledged the value of his advice, given his rich experience.
The visit is expected to focus on regional security cooperation, trade relations, and mechanisms for sustaining peace efforts in South Sudan.
