President Yoweri Museveni officially opened the new Busega Central Market in Rubaga Division, Kampala, today, July 14, 2025.
This marked the start of the Kampala leg of his nationwide Parish Development Model (PDM) wealth creation campaign.
A source at Busega Market revealed that President Museveni personally engaged with vendors, outlining key strategies to help them grow and improve their businesses.
These include promoting urban farming, supporting Savings and Credit Cooperative Organizations (SACCOs), and encouraging small businesses to grow.
The source noted that these strategies are central to the PDM plan, which seeks to reduce poverty and unemployment in the city by expanding income opportunities and fostering entrepreneurship.
The source quoted the President saying, “This event marks the start of the final phase of a nationwide campaign aimed at moving Ugandans from mere survival to active participation in a cash-based economy through business and income-generating activities.”
The source added that over the coming week, the President will engage with youth and women’s groups, market traders, and leaders of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) across Kampala’s five divisions.
Additionally, these meetings will focus on promoting and reinforcing the Parish Development Model (PDM) program.
The week will end with a major public rally on Sunday, July 20, at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.
This Kampala tour shows the government’s strong commitment to transforming the economy by using local resources and skills to build strong, self-reliant urban communities.
