President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Monday held high-level bilateral discussions with Egypt’s Foreign Minister, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, at State House Entebbe, focusing on strengthening economic collaboration and regional partnerships between Uganda and Egypt.
Dr. Badr conveyed warm greetings and best wishes from Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and expressed his country’s interest in deepening ties through the creation of a joint Egyptian-Ugandan business council. He explained that such a platform would help drive investment in key sectors such as construction, energy, and pharmaceuticals.
The Egyptian Foreign Minister also highlighted his country’s newly established financing mechanism intended to support development efforts in the southern Nile Basin region, positioning it as a tool for launching collaborative projects between the two nations.
“It’s a great honor and pleasure to be here to convey the best wishes from your brother President Abdel Fattah who is looking forward to discussing with you and hopefully have a business forum where the business community can explore the existing opportunities for investment and mutual benefits,” Dr. Badr said during the meeting.
He further praised President Museveni’s leadership and vision, particularly in advancing the ideals of Pan-Africanism and fostering South-South cooperation. Dr. Badr acknowledged Museveni’s influence on the continent and commended his consistent efforts in championing African unity and progress.
The dialogue also touched on strategic sectors that could benefit from increased economic cooperation, including digitalization, energy development, and regional security.
Dr. Badr took the opportunity to commend Uganda for its contributions to peacekeeping missions across Africa, specifically in Somalia, and acknowledged the country’s broader role in regional stability.
Water security was another important topic on the agenda, with the Egyptian delegation raising Egypt’s long-standing existential concerns over the issue. President Museveni responded by stressing the need for all African nations to prioritize the protection and sustainable use of the continent’s water resources.
The meeting was attended by several Ugandan government officials, including the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Okello Oryem, and the Minister of State for Environment, Hon. Beatrice Anywar, among others.
