The announcement was made by the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Justice Byabakama Mugenyi Simon.
He said the adjustments aim to provide a well-structured and orderly nomination process that accommodates all categories of electoral offices.
Justice Byabakama stated, “The nomination of candidates for Local Government Councils will now take place in three separate phases to ensure a smoother process.”
According to the revised calendar, nomination of District/City Chairpersons, Lord Mayor, and Councillors is scheduled for September 3rd to 5th, 2025.
The nomination of Municipality/City Division Chairpersons and Councillors will follow from September 8th to 10th, 2025.
For Sub County/Town/Municipal Division Chairpersons and Councillors, the nomination window will run from September 11th to 24th, 2025, excluding weekends.
Justice Byabakama clarified that nomination forms for Local Government positions will be available for collection starting August 11th, 2025.
He added that these forms can be obtained from the respective District and City Electoral Commission offices or downloaded from the Commission’s official website at [www.ec.or.ug](http://www.ec.or.ug).
Parliamentary nominations, including those for Special Interest Groups such as Youth, Persons with Disabilities, Workers, and the Elderly, have been pushed to October 15th and 16th, 2025.
These nominations will be conducted at the offices of District or City Returning Officers across the country.
Justice Byabakama confirmed, “Parliamentary nomination forms and guidelines will be made available online on August 11th, 2025.”
Regarding the Presidential race, aspirants will be able to collect nomination forms and guidelines from August 11th to September 24th, 2025.
These documents will be distributed exclusively at the Electoral Commission’s head office in Kampala during working hours from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on weekdays.
Justice Byabakama emphasized that all Presidential aspirants must collect signatures of supporters from at least two-thirds of all districts in Uganda, in accordance with the legal requirements.
He explained that political party candidates will be required to present an official letter of endorsement or authorization from their respective political parties.
Independent candidates must provide evidence of their inclusion on the National Voters Register.
Justice Byabakama urged all prospective candidates to follow the new nomination schedule and take advantage of the availability of forms and guidelines.
He said, “These changes are meant to facilitate a transparent and efficient nomination process and allow all stakeholders to prepare adequately.”
The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring free, fair, and inclusive elections and called upon all political actors to observe the electoral calendar.
