President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the Chairman of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and presidential flagbearer for the 2026 elections, has officially unveiled the party’s 2026–2031 manifesto at a colorful ceremony held at the Speke Resort Convention Centre in Munyonyo.
The event was attended by senior NRM officials, government dignitaries, and enthusiastic supporters who gathered in large numbers, signaling the beginning of Museveni’s campaign for a new five-year term in the upcoming 2026 general elections.
The manifesto is themed “Protecting the Gains,” reflecting the party’s pledge to consolidate Uganda’s hard-won peace, sustain economic progress, and accelerate socio-economic transformation across the country.
In his keynote address, President Museveni outlined the manifesto’s core priorities, which include diversifying the country’s energy base, advancing nuclear power for energy security, and deepening the promotion of patriotism, Pan-Africanism, and democracy.
“The NRM has sailed Uganda through turbulent storms,” Museveni declared, stressing the need to maintain the foundation of wealth creation, expand job opportunities, improve education, enhance healthcare, deliver justice, and strengthen regional integration.
The manifesto also places a strong emphasis on industrialization, modern agriculture, and infrastructure development, which Museveni said are critical in lifting millions of Ugandans into the money economy.
Senior party leaders and members of the Central Executive Committee were among the early arrivals at Munyonyo, lending weight to the ceremony.
Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among, who also serves as the NRM’s Second National Vice Chairperson (Female), delivered a strong call for unity and voter mobilization ahead of the 2026 elections.
She urged supporters to rally behind Museveni, noting that cohesion within the party will be key in delivering another electoral victory.
Other allied organizations also pledged support, with the Patriotic League of Uganda announcing ambitious plans to secure over 80% voter turnout for Museveni, underlining the NRM’s strong grassroots structures.
The manifesto launch comes days after Museveni was officially nominated as a presidential candidate for the 2026 elections, positioning him against rivals, including National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, who unveiled his manifesto in Jinja on the very same day.
The choice of the Speke Resort Munyonyo as the launch venue added prestige to the occasion, given its history of hosting key national events.
Notably, Museveni also launched the party’s 2021–2026 manifesto at the same venue under the theme “Securing Your Future,” which placed strong emphasis on inclusive development, employment creation, and socio-economic growth.
The 2026–2031 document builds on those commitments, but goes further in highlighting new challenges such as energy diversification and regional stability, while insisting that Uganda must protect the gains made over the years.
Supporters at the launch were upbeat about the party’s direction, with many describing the manifesto as both ambitious and practical.
“Today, we protect the gains and build a prosperous Uganda,” an NRM youth leader proclaimed, capturing the celebratory mood of the gathering.
The President also used the occasion to caution against divisive politics and sectarian tendencies, warning that such forces threaten to derail the country’s progress.
As the campaign season gathers momentum, the NRM manifesto sets out a roadmap for continued progress while reassuring Ugandans that the party remains committed to stability, transformation, and prosperity.
With elections drawing closer, the manifesto now serves as both a campaign tool and a policy guide, outlining how the NRM plans to shape Uganda’s future over the next five years.
