The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Secretary General, Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong, has rallied newly elected NRM Youth Member of Parliament flag-bearers to maintain unity and spearhead the re-election of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in the 2026 general elections.
On Monday, September 29, 2025, Todwong convened the youthful leaders at the party headquarters on Kyadondo Road in Kampala in a highly energized meeting that highlighted strategy, discipline, and focus.
The gathering drew youth representatives from Uganda’s four major regions—Northern, Eastern, Central, and Western—demonstrating the broad reach of the party’s mobilization efforts.
During his address, Todwong told the young flag-bearers that their responsibility goes beyond simply contesting for seats.
He reminded them that they must work collectively to “secure all positions” during the 2026–2031 electoral cycle, ensuring the dominance of the NRM across every political front.
The Secretary General stressed that the contribution of youth leaders is central to the party’s mission of “protecting the gains” of the NRM revolution.
He described the upcoming elections as a “demand-driven” campaign, one that would require total commitment and sacrifice from every party member.
“Unity is our strength, focus is our weapon, and you, the young leaders, are the torchbearers of this movement,” Todwong declared.
“Stay determined, campaign tirelessly, and make sure every vote counts for His Excellency President Museveni. The revolution needs you to win not only seats, but also hearts and minds,” he added.
Todwong was joined at the event by senior party officials who reinforced his call for solidarity and discipline among the youth.
The meeting followed closely on the heels of the NRM Central Executive Committee’s conclusion of youth league elections on September 18, which marked a key step in the party’s roadmap for primaries and internal structural polls set earlier this year.
This engagement also built on Todwong’s earlier calls for political cohesion within the movement.
On September 23, during President Museveni’s nomination ceremony at Kololo Independence Grounds, he urged all independents to rally behind the official party flag-bearers.
He once again warned against divisions, cautioning that disunity could weaken the NRM’s electoral advantage.
At Kyadondo, he reiterated that a strong “team spirit,” reinforced by collaboration with allies such as the Patriotic League of Uganda, could help the party secure more than 80% of the national vote.
The youth leaders present responded with enthusiasm, pledging their commitment to the cause and applauding Todwong’s steady leadership.
The NRM Youth Cadres Association, which has been active in building grassroots support, commended the Secretary General for his hands-on engagement and dynamic approach to guiding young members.
The meeting’s vibrant atmosphere reflected Todwong’s longstanding record in youth mobilization.
Earlier in June, he had successfully welcomed several high-profile defectors, including Alionzi “Dangote” from the National Unity Platform (NUP), into the NRM fold.
At that time, Todwong urged the youth to reject “bad politics” and instead dedicate their energy to development, stability, and national progress.
With the 2026 elections fast approaching, his latest appeal to the youth has placed them firmly at the center of the NRM’s strategy to extend President Museveni’s leadership and consolidate the party’s grip on the country’s political landscape.
