President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Wednesday pushed forward his 2026 presidential campaign trail with grand rallies in Amolatar and Dokolo districts in the Lango Sub-region.
He was received by thousands of enthusiastic supporters who gathered to listen to the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer unpack the ruling party’s 2026–2031 Manifesto under the theme Protecting the Gains.
The rallies turned into platforms of gratitude as leaders and citizens hailed the President for ending decades of insecurity in Northern Uganda and spearheading development programs that continue to transform the region.
In Amolatar, the NRM district chairperson, Mr. Kamilo Olwit, highlighted the milestones achieved under Museveni’s leadership.
Olwit praised the President for securing lasting peace, building modern infrastructure, and introducing wealth creation initiatives that are changing livelihoods.
He pointed to the establishment of Lira University, the ongoing construction of Akii-Bua Stadium, and critical roads such as the Apac–Lira–Kamdini highway as tangible symbols of transformation.
“The seeds you are planting here today will germinate and spread to all parts of Uganda,” Olwit said.
“You fought the LRA, Alice Lakwena, and cattle rustlers, and today there is lasting peace. You have given us development, and now you are driving wealth creation.”
The Speaker of Parliament and Second NRM National Vice Chairperson (Female), Rt. Hon. Annet Anita Among, echoed similar sentiments from the same platform.
She reminded the crowd of the difficult past when insecurity crippled Northern Uganda and travel was a life-threatening risk.
“Your Excellency, in the past it would take us one week just to travel to Soroti because of insecurity,” Among said.
“Today, Uganda is peaceful. We thank you for restoring peace and empowering people to prosper.”
When he addressed the gathering, President Museveni drew a distinction between dongo lobo (development) and lonyo (household wealth).
He warned that while infrastructure and services were important, poverty would remain unless families embraced the money economy.
“At Independence, only 9% of homes were in the money economy,” Museveni explained.
“Even by 2013, 68% were still stuck in subsistence. That’s why I started Operation Wealth Creation and later the Parish Development Model. Already the number outside the money economy has reduced, but everyone must join wealth creation so poverty is defeated.”
The President pledged to tackle key challenges in the education sector, promising to recruit 50,000 more teachers to fill shortages in government schools.
He vowed to abolish illegal school charges that burden parents and to strengthen the Parish Development Model by eliminating corruption and theft, including misuse of government drugs.
In Dokolo, Museveni unveiled plans to upgrade the road from Dokolo to Namasale, a development he said would cut the distance to Kampala.
But again, he stressed that true prosperity is not measured by roads or buildings alone.
“This is all dongo lobo—roads, schools, electricity,” he said.
“But the real battle is lonyo. Even in Baralege where I live, I may not have tarmac roads, but I have cows, coffee, fruits. That is what we want for every homestead.”
To illustrate his point, the President shared success stories of ordinary citizens benefiting from government programs.
He cited the case of Apio Piki, a farmer from Lira, who used Parish Development Model funds to grow maize, earn millions, and expand into livestock farming.
“She had never handled one million shillings in her life, yet now she owns land and animals,” Museveni said. “This is what PDM is about.”
The rallies also drew praise from senior NRM officials, including NRM Vice Chairperson for Northern Uganda Hamson Obua and Secretary General Richard Todwong.
Both leaders hailed President Museveni’s legacy of peace and socio-economic transformation, saying his track record continues to inspire confidence across the country.
As the campaign moves to other districts of the Lango Sub-region, Museveni is expected to continue rallying communities around the vision of consolidating peace, accelerating development, and expanding household wealth creation.
