NRM Diaspora Taskforce Launches Global Drive to Rally Overseas Ugandans Behind Museveni’s Leadership
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Diaspora Campaign Taskforce has embarked on an ambitious worldwide campaign to consolidate support among Ugandans living abroad for President Yoweri Museveni and all NRM flagbearers as the country prepares for the next general elections.

The initiative, described as one of the most comprehensive in the party’s recent history, seeks to strengthen unity among Ugandans in the diaspora while promoting peace, patriotism, and national cohesion as its guiding principles.

The leadership structure of the Taskforce is headed by Senior Presidential Advisor (SPA) Philip Kakuru, who serves as the Chairperson of the Steering Committee.

He is deputized by Male Kamya, while Engineer Adam Kasambula assumes the role of General Coordinator.

The team also includes Allan Olara as Deputy General Coordinator, Treasurer Charity Baira, and Deputy Treasurer Isma Luzige.

Other key members are SPA Hajjat Hamidah Kibirige, who serves as Organizing Secretary, and Dr. Godius Ayesigye as Deputy Organizing Secretary.

This well-organized leadership team is charged with ensuring seamless coordination and successful implementation of all Taskforce activities worldwide.

To enhance efficiency, specialized subcommittees have been created to handle political mobilization, media relations, women and youth affairs, legal matters, health and emergency response, manifesto dissemination, and regional coordination.

The campaign intends to reach every corner of the diaspora through more than 50 branded vehicles, the distribution of thousands of yellow T-shirts, and the use of digital tools to connect with Ugandans across continents.

Speaking at a well-attended press conference in Kampala, Boaz Byayesu, the Head of Media and Public Relations for the Taskforce, expressed great admiration for President Museveni’s visionary leadership.

He described the President as “a beacon of stability” and “the driving force behind Uganda’s remarkable development over the past decades.”

Byayesu praised Museveni’s long-standing dedication to peace, poverty eradication, and infrastructural transformation, noting that these efforts have “fundamentally improved the lives of millions of Ugandans at home and abroad.”

He added that the President’s ability to maintain national cohesion while navigating complex regional and international challenges “remains exemplary.”

The Taskforce also lauded the NRM Secretary General, Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong, for his exceptional leadership during this crucial electoral season.

He was commended for preserving party discipline, cohesion, and unity, while ensuring that every member feels valued and inspired to contribute to the NRM’s vision.

His “strategic foresight and steadfast commitment to the party’s values,” the Taskforce noted, have been instrumental in strengthening the NRM’s foundation ahead of the elections.

Recognition was also extended to the Taskforce’s patrons, Ambassador Abbey Walusimbi, a respected figure among Ugandan diaspora communities, and Major (Rtd) Awich Pollar, the NRM Secretariat’s Director of External Affairs.

Their guidance and dedication were acknowledged as key factors in building the strong operational base that supports the diaspora engagement mission.

The Taskforce has further attracted notable personalities, including two former presidents of the Uganda North America Association—Henreitta Nairuba and Brian Kwesiga—as well as Susan Gakwavu, President of the Ugandan Community in California.

Other prominent figures include Joyce Bazaraki, UK-based health advocate Moses Mulimira, and five senior Presidential aides, among them SPA Bagonza Muhammad and SPA Moses Byaruhanga.

Their involvement signals the seriousness with which the diaspora is approaching this campaign and its commitment to advancing the NRM’s agenda globally.

The overarching mandate of the Taskforce is to promote inclusivity among Ugandans living overseas and to encourage them to reject divisive politics while embracing a shared vision of peace and socio-economic growth.

The Taskforce’s regional structure includes coordinators representing major Ugandan subregions.

These include Moses Kibombo for Buganda, Griffin Kahakani Kagyenzi for Kampala, William Abasiku for West Nile, Ambassador Ruth Joy Achieng for Lango, Ismail Wandera for Elgon, Fred Kinene for Karamoja, Douglas Mughaju for Rwenzori, Hon. Hellen Namutamba for Busoga, Juma Batende for Tooro, and Susan Gakwavu for Bunyoro, among others.

This diverse representation ensures that Ugandans across all regions and abroad are effectively mobilized toward a unified cause.

The Taskforce emphasized that Uganda’s introduction of dual citizenship and improved consular services—such as issuing national IDs and passports abroad—have empowered the diaspora to contribute more meaningfully to national development.

Building on this momentum, the campaign seeks to inspire Ugandans living near borders with Tanzania, South Sudan, Kenya, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Rwanda to return home and participate in the upcoming elections.

This effort, according to the Taskforce, reflects President Museveni’s continued attentiveness to the welfare and voices of Ugandans abroad.

Byayesu expressed deep confidence in the initiative, declaring, “When we come together as a united force, we beat all the odds.”

Deputy Treasurer Isma Luzige added, “The President is the father of our nation, the father of the fatherless, that’s why we are here to protect the gains.”

Asiimwe observed, “It’s a great moment to reaffirm the role of the diaspora in contributing to our country’s growth,” while Katurebe emphasized, “We are here to shape a positive narrative and debunk the falsehoods spread by opposition elements.”

Diaspora leaders echoed these sentiments, urging Ugandans abroad to remain united and to champion truthful narratives that reflect the nation’s progress under President Museveni’s leadership.

They hailed him as “the father of the nation and protector of the fatherless,” and pledged to work toward securing an “overwhelming victory of more than 85 percent.”

The leaders reaffirmed their belief that granting President Museveni another term is essential for safeguarding Uganda’s development gains and ensuring the completion of the country’s transformative agenda.

In conclusion, the NRM Diaspora Campaign Taskforce vowed to continue combating divisive politics while fostering a united front anchored on peace, patriotism, and inclusive national progress.

The campaign, they said, symbolizes President Museveni’s lasting commitment to the diaspora and his recognition of their vital role in advancing Uganda’s future.
