Museveni Wraps Up Bunyoro Tour in Kakumiro with Fresh Road Pledges, Hospital Upgrade Plan and Renewed Wealth-Creation Message

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has concluded his campaign engagements in the Bunyoro Sub-region by addressing a large rally in Kakumiro District, using the occasion to take stock of development gains and outline fresh commitments for the area’s socio-economic transformation.

The final rally of the Bunyoro campaign trail was held at Kakeeka Play Grounds in Kakumiro District and attracted supporters from across the district and neighbouring communities.

Addressing the gathering, the National Resistance Movement presidential candidate commended residents of Kakumiro District and the wider Bunyoro Sub-region for positively responding to government programmes focused on wealth creation.

President Museveni said the visible changes in the district demonstrate the impact of NRM policies over time.

He pointed to improved road networks, expanded electricity and water supply, better telecommunications coverage and ongoing oil-related developments as clear signs of progress under the NRM government.

He urged the people of Kakumiro to support the continuation of his leadership to ensure that these gains are protected and expanded.

The President praised the district for effectively utilising wealth-creation programmes initiated by the NRM.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to further expanding infrastructure to unlock economic potential.

Museveni announced plans to increase the length of tarmac roads in Kakumiro District.

He specifically highlighted the Kisita–Nkooko–Masonde–Ntwetwe–Kiboga road.

He also cited the Kazo–Burunga–Mpara–Kyegegwa–Kiboga road as another key route earmarked for improvement.

He said upgrading these roads will ease the movement of goods and people, lower transport costs and stimulate social and economic development.

Turning to health services, the NRM presidential candidate confirmed that government plans are underway to elevate one Health Centre IV in Kakumiro District to a general district hospital.

He explained that the decision is informed by the relatively wide distribution of lower-level health facilities across most sub-counties in the district.

He said upgrading the facility will improve access to advanced medical services and reduce referrals to distant hospitals.

Museveni further outlined the NRM’s broader development strategy for Kakumiro District.

He said strengthening health and education services remains a priority to support human capital development.

Addressing national and regional issues, the President spoke about Uganda’s policy choices and their economic implications.

He said Uganda’s anti-homosexuality position had, in his assessment, turned into a “blessing in disguise” by pushing the country toward greater self-reliance.

He argued that reduced dependence on foreign aid following the enactment of the Anti-Homosexuality Law has encouraged a stronger focus on industrialisation and wealth creation.

He challenged the people of Kakumiro, the Bunyoro Sub-region, Uganda and Africa as a whole to place wealth creation at the centre of their development agenda.

The President assured residents that government support for wealth-creation initiatives would continue.

He encouraged households to adopt viable commercial enterprises as outlined in the NRM manifesto.

He guided the community on sustainable land use practices aimed at maximising productivity.

He pledged to further strengthen economic enablers that support industrialisation and job creation in the district.

Museveni highlighted progress already made in job creation across commercial agriculture, manufacturing and the services sector.

He also committed to increasing funding for skills development as a pathway to employment.

He cited the success of graduates from the Zonal Presidential Industrial Skilling Hubs as evidence that practical skills training is yielding results.

Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, who also addressed the rally, outlined key development milestones achieved by the NRM government in Kakumiro District.

She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to delivering services and improving livelihoods in the area.

The Prime Minister further announced that the President of the National Peasants Party had defected to the ruling NRM.

She said the defection was formally confirmed during the rally.

The Kakumiro District NRM Chairperson and Minister of State for Transport, Fred Byamukama, presented a detailed district status report.

He highlighted progress made so far and outlined priority areas requiring further government intervention.

The rally marked the official close of President Museveni’s Bunyoro Sub-region campaign engagements, bringing to an end a tour centred on infrastructure expansion, wealth creation and consolidation of peace and stability.
