Uganda’s wealth creation agenda continues to gain tangible expression through large-scale agro-industrial projects that link farmers to global markets and transform local production into high-value exports.
At the center of this strategy is President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s long-standing vision of moving Ugandans from subsistence livelihoods to commercial production through value addition, industrialization, and private sector participation.
It is within this broader national framework that Minister for the Presidency and MP-Elect for Budiope West Constituency, Hon. Babirye Milly Babalanda, has praised the President’s wealth creation philosophy for driving meaningful socio-economic transformation.
Hon. Babirye Milly Babalanda commended President Museveni’s wealth creation philosophy, noting that it has empowered many Ugandans to achieve lasting and meaningful transformation.
She emphasized that the President’s approach goes beyond rhetoric by creating practical opportunities that allow citizens to participate productively in the economy.
Her remarks highlighted how strategic leadership can unlock private initiative and inspire confidence in national development.
Hon. Babalanda made the remarks at an event organized by Inspire Africa Coffee to celebrate 40 years of growth in Uganda’s coffee sector.
The celebration also formed part of President Museveni’s third project inspection visit to the Africa Coffee Park.
The Africa Coffee Park is a 150-acre state-of-the-art industrial hub positioned to become the largest coffee-processing and value-addition center in Eastern and Central Africa.
The event was presided over by H.E. Rtd. Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the First Lady, Mama Janet Kataha Museveni, who attended as chief guests.
During the event, Hon. Babalanda applauded the stewardship of Mr. Tugume, describing his journey as a powerful testimony of vision, perseverance, and faith in one’s country.
She noted that Tugume’s success reflects what is possible when private sector ambition aligns with supportive national policy.
Driven by conviction and enthusiasm, Hon. Babalanda revealed that the Inspire Africa Coffee story began with a simple yet profound conversation.
She explained that what started in 2018 as a heartfelt discussion between a son and his mother about low coffee prices at their family farm has since grown into a globally competitive enterprise.
She said the initiative has exposed coffee from Buganda, Kigezi, Ankole, and Bugisu regions to international markets in Turkey, the United States, and China.
“This is how nations arise when private ambitions align with national purpose,” she said.
Tugume, a second-generation coffee farmer who followed in the footsteps of his late father, shared his personal journey toward success.
He highlighted the resilience, persistence, and determination required to transform a local farming dream into a major industrial project.
“I am so grateful to you, Your Excellency. This dream wouldn’t have taken shape had it not been for you,” Tugume said.
His remarks underscored the role of leadership and policy consistency in enabling private sector growth.
The Inspire Africa Coffee project is fully aligned with Uganda’s Fourth National Development Plan (NDP IV 2025/26–2029/30).
Coffee has been identified as one of six priority agricultural value chains targeted for value addition under the plan.
The project aims to shift Uganda from being primarily a bulk coffee exporter to becoming a high-value coffee producer.
It also seeks to increase Uganda’s coffee export value from USD 2 billion to USD 5 billion by 2030.
Earlier in the day, President Museveni and the First Lady toured the fertilizer production plant located on the shores of Lake Nyabihoko.
The visit formed part of the President’s broader inspection of strategic projects aimed at boosting agricultural productivity.
Later, the President addressed an unstoppable victory rally organized to celebrate his recent election victory.
The event attracted a wide range of national leaders and stakeholders.
Those in attendance included cabinet ministers, members of parliament, and members of the NRM Central Executive Committee.
Senior presidential advisors, members of the clergy, Resident District Commissioners, and Ntungamo District leadership were also present.
The business community participated in large numbers, reflecting strong private sector interest in Uganda’s value-addition agenda.
The gathering underscored the growing confidence in President Museveni’s wealth creation vision and its impact on Uganda’s economic future.
