Uganda’s growing footprint in regional tourism cooperation received global acclaim after the Uganda–Kenya Coast Collaboration was honored at the 4th Global Tourism Resilience Day Awards in Nairobi.
Uganda Consulate Mombasa proudly announces that the Uganda – Kenya Coast Collaboration was presented with the Cross- Border Coastal Tourism Resilience Award during the 4th Global Tourism Resilience Day Awards held at Safari Park, Nairobi on 17th February 2026.
The high-profile ceremony was hosted at the iconic Safari Park Hotel, bringing together policymakers, tourism stakeholders, conservation leaders and private sector players from across Africa and beyond.
The Chief Guest was Hon. Rebecca Miano, EGH, Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife- Kenya.
The presence of Hon. Rebecca Miano underscored Kenya’s commitment to advancing sustainable tourism, strengthening regional partnerships, and positioning East Africa as a resilient and competitive global tourism destination.

Global Tourism Resilience Day serves as an international platform to honor institutions and stakeholders that have demonstrated outstanding leadership and impact in tourism resilience, conservation, sustainable development, crisis preparedness, safety, and recovery initiatives.
The annual event has increasingly become a benchmark for excellence, particularly as destinations worldwide adapt to climate change pressures, global economic shocks, health crises, and evolving traveler expectations.
Kenya made history as the first African country to host this global event.
Hosting the fourth edition marked a significant milestone for the country and reinforced its leadership role in shaping continental dialogue around tourism sustainability and resilience.
The award was in recognition of the joint efforts by Uganda Consulate Mombasa and partners in marine conservation, shared crisis response and cooperative coastal destination management.
These efforts have focused on strengthening cross-border tourism circuits, promoting marine ecosystem protection along the Indian Ocean coastline, and enhancing coordinated responses to emergencies affecting coastal destinations.
The collaboration has also emphasized knowledge exchange between Ugandan and Kenyan tourism stakeholders, fostering shared marketing initiatives and harmonized destination management strategies.
This milestone highlights Uganda’s role in the promotion of regional tourism and its dedication to building resilient tourism systems that benefit both nations and the East African region at large.
The recognition further demonstrates Uganda’s strategic approach to leveraging diplomatic missions as catalysts for tourism growth and cross-border economic cooperation.
The Uganda- Kenya Coast collaboration is an initiative started in 2022 by Uganda Consulate Mombasa aimed at promoting tourism between Uganda and Kenya.
The initiative was launched against a backdrop of post-pandemic recovery efforts, when regional partnerships became essential to restoring visitor confidence and rebuilding tourism-dependent livelihoods.
Since inception, the number of Kenyans visiting Uganda has increased due to the improved visibility of Uganda tourism products through this Collaboration.
Enhanced destination marketing campaigns, business-to-business engagements, coastal roadshows, and joint promotional forums have contributed to greater awareness of Uganda’s wildlife safaris, adventure tourism, cultural heritage, and conference tourism offerings among Kenyan travelers.
The award therefore not only celebrates institutional collaboration but also signals the growing success of integrated East African tourism models built on partnership, sustainability, and shared prosperity.
