Police at Central Police Station (CPS) Kampala is holding an officer attached at Internal Security Organized (ISO) together with city businessman for allegedly printing movement stickers with Authority.
The operative who has been identified as Stephen Aryong, has been arrested for collaborating with a restaurant owner named Sabil Ali to illegally print and sell stickers that are attached to vehicles during this period of coronavirus lockdown.
In a televised briefing Friday afternoon, Police Spokesman Fred Enanga said the duo had “genuine-looking stickers”.
“… We also have an ISO operative identified as Aryong Osikol Stephen. He was arrested and he is in our custody for supplying movement permit stickers to Sabil Ali, a proprietor of a restaurant at Jambo Auto Mart in Ntinda, Kampala,” Enanga said.
“… But as you can see, he was abusing the authority that was given to him and went on to cause for the printing of additional movement stickers.”
The police spokesman said they were selling the stickers between Shs150,000 and Shs300,000.
He said such schemes have resulted in “an increase in the number of private and select public vehicles on the road.”
To prevent such schemes, the government rolled out a digital system that officials use to verify cars that are permitted to move during this period.
Enanga said the duo will be charged.
President Museveni said such people should be charged with murder or attempted murder.
