In a significant political disastrous shift affecting the opposition, over 300 of its party strong members in Rukungiri District have defected to the National Resistance Movement (NRM), drawn by its reputation for delivering on promises and prioritizing the needs of the people.
Security Minister Maj Gen Jim Muhwezi on 17,July, 2024, welcomed the new members, emphasizing the NRM’s dedication to serving the public interest, rather than personal gain.
According to Muhwezi, the substantial influx of new members is a testament to the appeal and strength of the NRM party.
“The NRM party, unlike other political parties, works with and for the people rather than exploiting the people to achieve personal gains,” said Minister Muhwezi.
Muhwezi’s message comes at a time when the NRM party is working to consolidate its support and maintain political dominance in Uganda.
This mass defection reflects a growing recognition of the NRM’s effective governance and commitment to the welfare of Ugandans and on the other hand this move has farther weakened the political grip of the opposition in the district and the country at large.
